The article below describes the various opt in/out options.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Ch2 id=\u0022manually_setting_contact_preferences\u0022\u003EManually Setting Contact Preferences\u003C/h2\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAn individual\u0027s opt-in and opt-out preferences are configurable when viewing the contact. Each individual opt-in or opt-out preference is configurable, overriding any previous opt-in/opt-out preferences. Changes made here are also logged.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFor example, it is possible to be opted out of emails while remaining opted in to SMS.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Ch2 id=\u0022do_not_contact\u0022\u003EDo Not Contact\u003C/h2\u003E\u003Ccite class=\u0022warning\u0022\u003E\u003Cspan class=\u0022title\u0022\u003EWarning\u003C/span\u003E\u003Cp\u003EImportantIf a contact record has\u0026nbsp;all \u003Ca href=\u0022/article/can-spam-compliance-guide\u0022\u003Eopt out\u003C/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;preferences set to\u003Ci\u003E\u0026nbsp;Yes (opted out)\u003C/i\u003E, the record is automatically made inactive and set to\u0026nbsp;Do Not Contact. Unlike other opt-out preferences, the Do Not Contact status prevents\u0026nbsp;all\u0026nbsp;communication to the recipient including transactional messages.\u003C/p\u003E\u003C/cite\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWhen a contact is configured as Do Not Contact, the following is displayed on their contact detail screen:\u003C/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETo undo the Do Not Contact setting, click \u003Cb\u003EReset Status\u003C/b\u003E. However, when viewing segment counts or when scheduling messages the metrics shown do not account for contacts with a Do Not Contact Until date in the future as these are dynamic suppressions calculated when the messages are actually sent.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Ccite class=\u0022important\u0022\u003E\u003Cspan class=\u0022title\u0022\u003EImportant\u003C/span\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWhen contacts are\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022/article/omlopd8u8w-exporting-contacts\u0022\u003Eexported\u003C/a\u003E, the export checks each contact\u0027s Do Not Contact Until date. If that date is later than today, the export sets Opt Out Email, Opt Out Text, Opt Out Push, and Opt Out Call to\u0026nbsp;\u003Ccode\u003Etrue\u003C/code\u003E\u0026nbsp;for that contact to indicate they should not be contacted through any channel until that date.\u003C/p\u003E\u003C/cite\u003E\u003Ch3 id=\u0022manually_setting_the_do_not_contact_until_date\u0022\u003EManually Setting the Do Not Contact Until Date\u003C/h3\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe do not contact until date is set by either editing the contact and setting a do not contact until date or when the contact modifies their subscription preferences.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Ch4 id=\u0022setting_do_not_contact_until_on_the_contact_record\u0022\u003ESetting do not contact until on the contact record\u003C/h4\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWhen viewing a contact, scroll to the bottom section \u0022Opt out and Do Not Contact\u0022 and click the \u0022Edit\u0022 button. If a contact has a do not contact date it will be shown here.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ENext, set a future date and either \u0022Save\u0022 or \u0022Clear\u0022. To save a date the date must be in the future. Clicking \u0022Clear\u0022 will remove the do not contact until date.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Ch4 id=\u0022recipient_sets_do_not_contact_on_email_opt_out_screen\u0022\u003ERecipient sets do not contact on email opt out screen\u003C/h4\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe recipient of an email can click on the opt out link in the email and change their email preferences. One of those preferences is choosing to opt out of messages until a point in time in the future.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWhen a recipient sets this, this sets their do not contact until date until the specified date.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Ch3 id=\u0022soft_bounces_and_temporarily_undeliverable_automatically_set_do_not_contact_until\u0022\u003ESoft bounces and temporarily undeliverable automatically set do not contact until\u003C/h3\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIf a recipient is sent an email and a \u003Ca href=\u0022/article/6fvbc5wo16-bounced-email-guide\u0022\u003Esoft bounce\u003C/a\u003E is returned, the \u0027do not contact until\u0027 date is automatically set to a random date between four and seven days in the future. This is done to prevent sending multiple emails to an inbox that is not accepting them and potentially damaging the senders reputation.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Ch2 id=\u0022max_contact_frequency\u0022\u003EMax Contact Frequency\u003C/h2\u003E\u003Cp\u003EMax Contact Frequency is  a global optout of all communication for a number of days.\u003C/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EContacts with a Max Contract Frequency are automatically suppressed when out-bound messages are sent.
