Opting into Text Messages

Rob Howard Updated by Rob Howard

If a recipient replies to a Text Message with "START", they are automatically opted into future text messages from the sending number.

In addition to the "START" keyword, there are more keywords that DailyStory looks for to automatically opt in recipients:

  • JOIN
  • OPTIN
  • SUBSCRIBE

Automated confirmation on opt-in

When DailyStory received an opt-in keyword a reply is automatically sent back confirming the opt-in. For example, opting into text messages from an account named Jamie's Gym:

👍 You are opted in to text messages from Jamie's Gym. Reply STOP if you ever want to opt out.

Opt-in on keyword

Within DailyStory's text messaging keywords are setup that when texted in will add a mobile number to a campaign. Use of a keyword will additionally opt-in the sender to future text messages.

Examples

If a message contains the text, "I'd like to start receiving text messages". This would not opt-in the sender automatically because the word start is within the reply. However, if the message text was "start" this would opt the sender into future text messages.

A contact can also be manually opted in (or opted out) by setting the contact's opt out status. Navigate to a given contact and toggle OPT OUT TEXT to No.

Opt-ins are logged

DailyStory records when a sender opts into text messages. Including the mobile number and the keyword used to opt-in. This information is available in the opt-in report.
