Troubleshooting Claude Email Imports
When you bring an email from Claude into DailyStory with Build with Claude, DailyStory checks that it's built the way the Email Designer expects. If anything is wrong, DailyStory lists every problem and doesn't create the email, so you never end up with a half-working email in your account. This article explains how to fix those problems. To get started with Claude, see Build Emails with Claude.
Fix problems with Copy for Claude
The fastest fix is to let Claude correct its own work:
- In the Build with Claude window, click Copy for Claude below the list of problems.
- Paste it into the same Claude chat that created the email, and send it.
- Claude sends back a corrected file. Upload it, or paste it, in the Build with Claude window and click Create email again.
Each problem says where it is, for example container[1] > column[0] > Button, which means the button in the second row of the email. Claude uses this to find and fix the right part of the email.
Common problems
"Only email rows are allowed at the top level"
The file isn't a DailyStory email design. This usually means Claude wrote an ordinary HTML email without using the DailyStory email skill. Check the skill is installed and turned on in Claude, then ask Claude to "rebuild this email using the DailyStory email skill."
"<html> is not allowed" or "<style> is not allowed"
Claude produced a complete web page instead of a DailyStory design. Ask Claude to use the DailyStory email skill and to give you only the email rows, with styles inline.
"A button needs a real href"
A button has no link, or links to #. Tell Claude where the button should go, or ask it to use your website address.
"An image needs a src URL"
An image has no picture. Give Claude the web address of the image, for example one copied from your File Manager.
"The footer must include an unsubscribe link"
Every DailyStory email needs an unsubscribe link to comply with anti-spam law. Ask Claude to use the standard DailyStory footer. See the CAN-SPAM Compliance Guide.
"Add a subject for the email"
The file doesn't include a subject line. Type one into the Subject field in the Build with Claude window, or ask Claude to add it to the file.
The email imported, but something looks wrong
- A widget you wanted is missing, such as an RSS feed, poll or countdown timer: Claude doesn't create these. Add them in the Email Designer. See What the DailyStory Email Skill Supports.
- A placeholder image is showing: select the image in the Email Designer and choose the right picture.
- Colors or fonts don't match your brand: give Claude your Brand Kit values next time, or restyle the widgets in the designer.
- Alignment or spacing questions: see the Email Designer FAQ.
Don't paste Claude's email into the HTML editor
The HTML editor is for hand-written HTML. Pasting an email from Claude there removes the information the designer needs to recognize its widgets, and the email can't be edited in the designer afterwards. Always use Build with Claude.
